Introduction
The Navajo Nation website provides an overview of the community since its inception and events leading up to its recognition as a sovereign government. The tribe contains an extensive range of activities and divisions that run the daily activities. The tribe’s organization further emulates the functions in both federal and state levels, with each Division handling a specific issue affecting the community. The seventeen major sections range from the executive office, legislature, and judiciary that operate their respective functions under their constitutions. The Navajo Nation covers a significant portion of the states of Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona, with its landmass at approximately 27,000 square miles. At such a size, the natural resources cover a significant part of this territory in America. Furthermore, the population totaling about 250,000 people shows the prominence of the tribe representing one of the largest American-Indian government bodies. The resources include oil, which offered an economic incentive through the leasing of land masses to corporations that explored this resource.
