The four categories of family dysfunction that augment delinquent behavior include uninvolved parenting, violence level, family cohesion level, and parental attitudes. The family constitutes the primary source of reassurance, affection, and companionship, especially for a juvenile. The relationship between the child and the parent influences the capacity of the child to commit a crime. Parents that demonstrate compassionate and authentic attitudes are likely to bring up respectful children who prefer social order instead of violence or irresponsible behavior (Mwangangi 57).
