The rise and fall of Johnny Manziel
The sporting world is unpredictability. More often, successes and failures feature at different times, circumstances, and contexts. A great sense of discipline and consistency are usually required for one to be successful. Various disruptions such as injuries, inconsistencies, and failure to obey game regulations, among others, constitute challenges that limit individual efforts towards success in sports. Johnny Manziel is a sports personality who played in the National Football League (NFL). His life trajectory pathway in sports depicts the obstacles, failures, uncertainties, and successes in sports. He holds a history of playing for two seasons at the Cleveland Browns in the NFL league in 2014 and 2015 before troubles get better of him. He is a former American NFL quarterback and did become a member of Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League in 2018. Later, he also joined Memphis Express in 2019. Thus, despite challenges, Johnny Manziel leaves trails of successes in the history of the NFL.
Johnny’s sports career began to blossom at the earliest stages of his life. He grew up in a football state where he started as a receiver at Tivy High School in Kerrville. Later he changed his play position from receiver to quarterback one game. He gained immense praise for his play and was even enjoyed comparisons to great NFL football legends. However, trouble also began early in his career, even before joining Cleveland Browns.  In his 2012 season at Texas A&M University, Johnny Manziel was arrested and charged with three misdemeanors following a street altercation. In 2013, he was under probe for receiving autographs’ payments but was not-guilty by the National Collegiate Athletic Association for that purpose. However, he was suspended for a rule violation.
Johnny Manziel commenced his sports career at Cleveland Browns as one of the most talented and promising young players. At the early stages of his sports career, John Manziel enjoyed tremendous success. His success achievement was attributable to being born a natural athlete. His feat manifested his prowess in leading Texas a&M’s football team to an 11–2 season and a Cotton Bowl victory and broke Archie Manning’s total offense record, that had existed for about 50 years, in 2012 during a game against Alabama (InsideHook). He joined Cleveland Browns two years later. The excitement around him was high in 2012 following Heisman Trophy-winner, Manning Award, and Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award (ESPN.com). His fame hit the roofs following various successes and trophies. Johnny’s jerseys were selling like hotcakes at Cleveland Browns’s website.
Later, his star began to dim. Unfortunately, the fame that followed his rise partly speeded his downfall. Johnny Manziel was incompetent in handling sudden sports fame and success. Despite high school and college football accomplishments, some people had reservations about Johnny Manziel’s NFL career partly because he was short (5’10”), which is not a convenient feature for an NFL quarterback (InsideHook). His off-the-field behavior increased serious concerns regarding dedication and commitment to the profession NFL sporting activities. According to Washington Post, Johnny Manziel waited backstage at the 2014 NFL draft for at least two hours, and further waited till passing on the former Texas A & M quarterback. Some of his critics argue that Johnny Manziel was reckless on the field, irrespective of his 20-6 record as a college starter and the 2012 Heisman Trophy. Others raise concerns about off-field behavior, including an excessive thirst for attention and his life pre-and post-matches.
The efforts from friends and family to assist him failed to materialize significantly. He became a free agent after two seasons with the Cleveland Browns. His parents were highly concerned about his drinking habits and drug abuse. Johnny’s time a Cleveland underwent adverse disruptions following various images showing him partying at clubs while ignoring his obligations as a professional NFL quarterback or in open defiance of them. He continued to abused drugs despite various interventions to rehabilitee him. Johnny more often drank alcohol heavily, took cocaine, and partied at high-end clubs with hundred dollar bills.
