I will focus on the second quote, “I believe large numbers of people have at least some talent as writers and storytellers and that those talents can be strengthened and sharpened” (King 4). The craft of writing can be improved as King suggests, and in providing advice uses his experience. Recognizing the talent of writing and improving this is crucial to successful writing. Persuasion techniques influence how people interpret the message and Aristotle explained the technique of persuasion through rhetoric based on ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos, pathos, and logos will be used to analyze the passage and assess effectiveness of the writer’s communication.
The arguments linked to ethos are linked to the writer’s credibility since there is appeal to authority and honesty. King is a writer and, well placed to advice others on how to improve their writing skills. The author points out that writing is a craft like any other and enhancing writing skills requires practice and taking time to perfect the art of writing. If a writer like King reads a lot of different books and has written numerous times to enhance their writing. As such, the argument that anyone can strengthen how they write then seems credible.
