Logic (Philosophy): Quarantine Is a Privilege
COVID-19 continues to spread to different countries all over the world at a high rate. Currently, almost all countries have reported the presence of persons infected with the coronavirus. The pandemic has resulted in not only health effects but also adverse impacts on organizations and employees. The emergence of the COVID-19 has adversely affected and altered the political, social, economic, religious, and financial structures worldwide. Some of the world's large economies, including the U.S., China, Germany, France, Japan, and Italy have all suffered tremendous economic effects since the pandemic began. On the other hand, operations and day to day activities in sector/industries and organizations are also experiencing hard times. On an individual basis, several concepts have been established during this pandemic.
To begin with, COVID-19 has resulted in tremendous negative impacts which are likely to continue. One of the concepts established during the pandemic is the need to undergo quarantine to stop the spread of the COVID-19. However, quarantine has had tremendous economic impacts as not many people can work from home. There has been an emergence of the debate on whether quarantine is a concept that applies to all people's lives. As a result, this has led to the rise of the phrase that states, "Quarantine is a privilege.” This is an argument that seeks to explain that most people do not have the luxury of staying their houses even during this COVID-19 pandemic. Many people have to go to their workplaces every day to ensure that they can be able to meet their daily needs. Therefore, for persons who can stay home (self-quarantine) and still be able to cover their daily expenses, this is a privilege. On the other, for most middle and low-income earners across the world, quarantine is a privilege they cannot afford in their daily lives. Only the rich people have the luxury to ensure that they can quarantine and still meet their daily needs.
I also believe the argument that "a quarantine is a privilege." This argument is supported by the article “For Many, Quarantine Is a Privilege & Not an Option” by Adesuwa Aighewi. Notably, Adesuwa begins her argument by stating that COVID-19 is a disease that is mainly spread by the rich, but most of the illness's effects are felt by the poor.
