Discussion: Id, Ego, And Superego (Fraud’s Theory) Id, Ego, and Superego In Fraud’s structural model of the human psyche, the Id represents the primitive, irrational, fantasy-oriented, and instinctual part of the mind. The id part responds to immediate urges, desires, and needs. For example, a newborn’s personality is Id but they later develop the ego and super-ego personalities (Zhang, 2020). Secondly, the Ego stands as the part of the psyche that mediates between one unrealistic desire of the id and the moral underpinnings of the superego (Freud,1974). The ego is the part of the psyche that has been modified by the direct influences of the external world, and its goal is to ensure that the id’s demands are met safely and in a socially acceptable manner.
