PSYCHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF VIOLENT TERRORISTS

For your first Discussion this week, you will examine the topic of terrorism. The definition of terrorism, as well as which individuals or groups should be classified as terrorists, is the subject of much debate. Although research on terrorism has grown substantially over the last few decades, the empirical literature addressing this important topic is still in its infancy. For this Discussion, you will explore some of the conceptual and definitional issues related to terrorism using the case study of a real-life terrorist. Review this week’s Learning Resources to better understand the psychological characteristics of violent terrorists. Based on your professional interests, choose one of the following topics that pertains to violent terrorists: Involuntarily Celibates (Incels) Radicalization Terrorism Assessment Identify one terrorist on which to focus for this Discussion, and then research them on the internet and in the Walden Library. Consider which category of terrorist they are (e.g., incel, domestic terrorist, lone wolf, etc.). Post the following, using information about the terrorist you selected, to illustrate your points: Definition of terrorism, including how it is differentiated from other acts of violence, and the difference between domestic and international terrorism Description of the terrorist you selected, including the relevant citations and URL links Description of the types of terrorist act(s) in which they have allegedly engaged Explanation of which category of terrorist they are and why Comparison between the characteristics of the terrorist you selected and characteristics discussed in the research about this category Evaluation of why some of the characteristics of the terrorist you selected may or may not be the same as described in the research about this category Note: Your posts should be substantial (2–4 paragraphs), supported with scholarly evidence from your research and/or the Learning Resources, and properly cited using APA style.
