Reflection on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs offers a respected perception of recognizing human behavior and inspirations. Maslow's model, which posits that people are inspired by a hierarchy of needs, including basic physiological needs to self-actualization, provides a structure for examining why individuals behave the way they do. This reflection will examine instances from personal observations, delve into the idea of self-actualization, and relate it to my goals and ambitions.
Examples of Maslow's Hierarchy in Action
Observing individuals around me, I can see clear instances of conduct aligned with different levels of Maslow's hierarchy. For instance, one of my close friends has been conscientiously working overtime and saving money. Such behavior aligns with the second level of Maslow's hierarchy of safety needs. Maslow categorized human needs in a way that promotes the realization of self-actualization by categorizing them into “deficiency needs and being needs” (Carducci, 2020). In this case, deficiency needs represent lower, more elementary needs needed for the existence of people, such as starvation, thirsting, and, more importantly, safety, which work to inspire people to involve in behavior meant to convey the fulfilment of such needs. My friend is inspired by the longing for financial security and stability, ensuring that she can cater to her family and herself without worry.
