Week 5 Assignment – Critical Event Management Functions Select a sport event that will occur within the next three months. The event can be any level (i.e., professional, amateur, youth, international, national, regional, local) but this sport event must have a website to verify its existence. Then, write a mini-essay (minimum of 750 words, approximately 3-4 pages excluding title and reference pages) detailing your responsibilities for each of the six (6) "Critical Event Management Functions" (i.e., see below) if you were to work on this event. For each, please explain how you would complete these responsibilities and improve upon existing protocols. Provide information in the following order (by using headings) within your mini-essay. Title page (stand alone page --- Page 1) Introduction (stand alone page --- Page 2) Provide the name of your sport event URL (web address) to your sport event’s website Overview - Background information (e.g., date, location) about your sport event Finance/Budgeting (Begin presenting information on the next Page after completing Introduction). For example, Introduction on Page 2 and the Finance/Budgeting information would begin on Page 3. Then complete the remaining requirements in consecutive paragraphs in the paper. Finance/Budgeting - The process of developing a written plan of revenues and expenses for a particular accounting cycle; the budget specifies available funds among the many purposes of an organization to control spending and achieve organizational goals. Risk Management - Protecting a business or organization from anything that could possibly go wrong and lead to a loss of revenue or customers; developing management strategy to prevent legal disputes from arising and to deal with them if they do occur. Event Operations - Pre-event, actual event, and post-event activities for staging an event. Registration System - A system for registering participants in events as well as collecting and disseminating the appropriate information. Volunteer Management - The supervision of volunteers involved with an event; it involves two areas (1) working with event organizers and staff to determine the tasks in which volunteers are needed as well as the quantity required and (2) soliciting, training, and managing volunteers. Event Marketing - The process of promoting and selling a sport or special event; it encompasses nine areas: sales of corporate sponsorship, advertising efforts, public relations activities, hospitality, ticket sales, broadcasting, website development and management, licensing/merchandising, and fund-raising. Consider the 4 P’s (i.e., Product, Price, Place, and Promotion) of the Marketing Mix for your sport event.
