Original Five Steps of Evidence-Based Practice
Over the years, evidence-based practice has been discussed since it helps to reach accurate and unbiased information. Evidence-based practice has five steps: ask questions, find evidence, evaluate the evidence, incorporate the evidence into practice, and reevaluate evidence. We will use a case study about strength training and cycling in chapter 12 of the textbook to see whether the case has addressed these steps and to understand these steps better.
The first step is asking a question. This step involves developing a background or fundamental understanding of the problem, which helps to formulate specific questions that the research will answer. This case has addressed this step since it has a question that asks if adding resistance exercise within cycling training could help boost cycling performance according to the time trial performance or other critical cycling measurements. This question helped guide the research since the researchers only looked at the information regarding resistance in cycling and not any other sport. Moreover, the researchers will check this question to ascertain if they have reached their goal.
The next step is finding the evidence. After the researchers formulate the question, they should systematically look for the best sources to offer evidence. This process includes searching for journals, databases, or other relevant literature sources. This evidence is critical since it will determine the quality of the evidence that will be found. This case has entirely followed this step. For example, the researchers initially used Google Scholar as the search engine to search and obtain relevant research evidence (Amonette, English & Kraemer, 2016). The main reason for choosing Google Scholar was some of the relevant peer-reviewed practice-based journals had yet to be indexed within PubMed. After searching for information about cycling performance and strength training and cycling performance and resistan...
