Lesson Overview
The lesson “Our Community Helpers” is designed to teach preschool children (age – 4-5 years) about the importance of the members of the community. Thus, using storytelling methods, discussion in groups, and games, children will investigate the roles and occupations of main characters such as firefighters, police officers, and doctors. This makes children aware that the WHO in the community helps them experience a sense of belonging in society. This lesson is beneficial for enhancing cognitive and social development for the children because it helps them to be able to relate to issues within their community and the world.
Learning Objectives
* List three caregivers in the community and explain their functions.
* Despite the significance of all the helpers in the community, we should recognize every helper.
* Promote basic skills in social interaction from group work.
Activities
1 Storytime: A teacher reads a story about different persons in the community
2 Discussion: Students also recount their own experiences in dealing with community helpers.
3 Creative Craft: Puppets are made by the children of the community helpers that they have been taught about.
