Introduction
Nurses are dedicated leaders in healthcare organizations whose caregiving responsibilities directly ensure the quality of service to the patients. The physical and organizational environments determine nurses' job satisfaction and task performance. An administrative team in a suburban community hospital experiencing growing dissatisfaction attempts to identify how these environmental issues influence nursing task performance. This paper states the hypothesis and justifies the chosen hypothesis with reference to the selected scenario, research design, purpose and problem statement, and research questions.
Justification of the Hypothesis to the Chosen Scenario
The chosen scenario highlights a situation where nurses across several units in a suburban community hospital express increasing job dissatisfaction. This dissatisfaction is attributed to the hospital's physical environment and policies directed toward staff facilitating patient care. Using the CARES instrument will allow the administrative team to assess how nurses can carry out core job responsibilities such as monitoring patients, administering medication, and responding to emergencies in the target work environment (Rich et al., 2021). Job dissatisfaction among nurses may result from environmental constraints related to the physical work environment and ultimately affect nurses' efficiency in performing their duties. The CARES instrument was also specifically developed to measure nurses’ perceptions of their work environment, focusing on whether these environments are conducive to safe and efficient nursing. The hypothesis directly aligns with the CARES instrument’s purpose by linking environmental affordances to task performance.
Justification of the Hypothesis to the Research Design
The research focuses on the relationship between environmental affordances and task performance. This research befits a correlational study design because it studies the relationship between two variables (Devi et al., 2023).
