A disparity where a single ethnic group has many students in a specific education program, such as special education, arises due to partiality. In such scenarios, schools have teachers who hold unconscious assumptions that blacks or people of color are poor and educationally disabled (Lavine, 2010). These beliefs further lead to subjective transfers for particular education appraisal. Consequently, these predispositions can affect assessments of behavioral and academic problems, resulting in unbalanced identification of minority students for special education services.
Misinterpretation of conduct, which leads to unique education placement, arises from dissimilar cultural norms and communication styles. For instance, an unsettled child can be considered disruptive in one culture, while it is usual, or a mild issue in another group (Cavendish et al., 2020). Consequently, these differences encourage improper referrals for special education.
