Describe the influence of listening and speaking development on the development of reading and writing skills

Coursework Instructions:
Educators understand the critical role of listening and speaking in the development of literacy. Since children can listen to and talk about much more complex ideas than they can read and write, knowing how these skills contribute to the development of literacy is an essential skill for teachers. This knowledge can help teachers plan listening and speaking activities and opportunities that can enhance the development of literacy skills. For this assignment, develop a 3-5 minute Lope Talk video similar to a Ted Talk, in which you describe the influence of listening and speaking development on the development of reading and writing skills. This would be presented as professional development to early childhood special education teachers. Include the following in your Lopes Talk video: Describe the typical development of listening and speaking skills in children from birth-preschool as indicated in early learning standards. Describe the typical development of listening and speaking skills in children from K-3 as indicated in academic standards. Explain the effect of language delays on listening and speaking. Describe the influence of listening and speaking skills development on the development of reading and writing skills. Support your video with a minimum of 2-3 resources. Submit your video link and resources in one document. Refer to the “Recording, Editing and Uploading a Video or Podcast Guide” to help you become familiar with how to create a video and/or podcast. Upon completion of this assignment, upload your video to a platform such as Vimeo or YouTube. Make sure the video is set as unlisted (follow the directions in the Guide mentioned above on how to do this). Remember, video and audio quality are important and should be taken into consideration. Be sure your video is filmed with sufficient lighting, and the volume is adequate for viewers to hear. Intonation, expression, proper speech, and professional attire are expected. Upload your video to your OneDrive account and share the file in OneDrive with your instructor. If you upload your video to YouTube, select the “unlisted” option.

Listening and Speaking Development from Birth to Preschool Children start learning or developing listening and speaking at birth, the foundation for literacy. Usually, they first interact through vocalizing and gesturing, babbling, and vocalizing while the baby appears to understand speech and responds with smiles and gazing. Then comes the stage of toddlers, which is much brighter. They start using many more words, framing small sentences, and understanding different phrases and words (de Carvalho et al., 2021). Before preschool, children can comprehend complex instructions, use language, and recount events. These early learning standards emphasize areas that focus on what enables children to engage with spoken language and respond purposefully to understand stories and other forms of ...
