Technology Needs Assessment
Technology is essential in the advancement of our healthcare system. Telemedicine in real-time is the main section of healthcare's rapidly expanding telehealth business. Telemedicine is specifically defined as the delivery of medical services through a distant technological platform. There are variations in the delivery of telemedicine. Real-time telemedicine aims to increase patient access to healthcare and enhance team member communication and care coordination. Research has shown that real-time telemedicine is a helpful technology that can facilitate access to preventative care and improve long-term health outcomes. Individuals experiencing financial or geographical challenges may find it difficult to access high-quality therapy (Haleem et al. (2021). Healthcare organizations must conduct a needs assessment before embracing and executing telehealth technology.
Importance of a Needs Assessment
Needs assessment is the process by which an organization ascertains its needs and gaps in knowledge, skills, or practices. Organizations can better understand the gaps preventing them from reaching their goals and objectives by conducting needs assessments. The requirements assessment is pertinent and crucial for this healthcare organization since it directs decision-making before implementing real-time telemedicine technology. The organization will ascertain what needs to be done through needs assessment to reach its objectives. Crawford (2023) states that an organization can identify the tactics it will support during project implementation and prioritize resources by conducting a needs assessment. The company will be able to ensure that real-time telemedicine is customized for the people it serves by doing a requirements assessment.
Addressing Key Issues
One of the main causes of death in the US and a significant public health issue is medical error. Surgical, diagnostic, pharmaceutical, equipment and device, system failures, infections, and falls are common medical errors. Medical error is one of the primary nursing difficulties that real-time telemedicine aims to address in terms of patient outcomes. According to Tiwary et al. (2019), communication mistakes continue to be among the top reasons why patients in healthcare institutions across the globe have poor outcomes. Studies indicate that text-based communication through real-time telemedicine will persist as a method of interaction between patients and clinicians in the future (Mirzaei & Kashian, 2020).
Medication errors, such as inaccuracies in dosing or administration, can have severe repercussions on patient well-being and recuperation. Real-time telemedicine eliminates traditional communication techniques, accelerating communication between medical personnel and patients. If the implementation is done well, patients and medical professionals will have quick access to the necessary information. Interdisciplinary teams must also promptly handle post-operative concerns such as surgical site infections and adverse drug reactions. Haleem et al. (2021) found that real-time telemedicine improves specialist communication and reduces medication errors.
Safety Requirements and Regulatory Considerations
Safety considerations related to real-time telemedicine go beyond ensuring information accuracy. Real-time telemedicine has been regulated for nearly as long as it has been in existence. State-based law is affected by federal statutes and facility-based restrictions, creating a complex set of requirements that might be challenging for sleep telemedicine practitioners. Fie...
