Depression or depressive disorder is one of the common mental disorders involving a depressed mood or loss of interest in activities for an extended period. Depression is common and prevalent, and it's a major reason individuals seek out mental health assistance (CrashCourse, 2014, 2:50-2:59). Sadness is temporary. Still, when it persists beyond the accepted social norms or perseveres into depth that causes serious dysfunction, people find themselves struggling with depression. Symptoms of depression include depressed mood, appetite or weight loss or gain, feeling worthless, lethargic, tired, excessive or too little sleep, concentration difficulties, reduced interest in activities, and death or suicidal thoughts (CrashCourse, 2014, 3:39-3:53). Depression interferes with individual sleep energy and appetite that affect how the body functions. Similar to a person suffering from a severe anxiety disorder, a clinically depression person tends to feel hopeless and overwhelmed.
