Individual counseling is a direct, responsive service that involves one-to-one counseling with a student.

Component #1: Case Conceptualization and Appraisal
Confidentiality Procedures: Client-patient privilege is sacrosanct in counseling, and the student will be made to understand that whatever they reveal in the counseling sessions will be kept confidential. Still, the law requires the counselor to report a client-patient if the client-patient expresses a clear intention of inflicting harm on themselves or others. The confidentiality limitations will be explained during the first session at the initial stage of treatment.
Parental Permission: In this case, permission from the student’s parent was sought because the student is below the legal age. This is important to get the parents' consent to receive school counseling services in compliance with the school's policy and the law.
Observable Behaviors: There are concerns here based on what can be observed regarding the student's absence from school, poor academic performance, and increasing cases of misconduct in class.
Consultation with Stakeholders: I consulted with the student's teachers, school administrators, parents or guardian to gain insight into any behavioral changes, academic struggles, and stressors impacting the student. This collaboration helped provide context around the student's situation.
Additional Information: It was found out that, from the records obtained, the student has been experiencing some family stressors. Combined with what can be explained by numerous sicknesses, it can be assumed that the student has some emotional issues connected with performance at school.
School Counseling Services: Social-emotional support will enable the student to deal with stress issues, academic support will assist the student in overcoming academic difficulties, and job support will allow the student to maintain focus in future endeavors.
Additional Counseling Services: Regarding emotional concerns, a child could benefit from being recommended to a community-based mental health service for further treatment at home or other facilities than school.
SMART Goals: An example of a SMART goal could be to minimize those unnecessary absences by 20% during the following three months (Di-Tecco et al., 2021). Another would be to increase the quality of scores in the major classes occasioned by tutoring.
Involving the Student: These goals will be developed in consultation with the student so that they are SMART, making the student more accountable for the goals and increasing their motivation.
