Abstract
Education system around the world are varied for many reasons. There is a general acceptance that western education is better than other education system and it can be partly attributed to their dominance in international affairs. Chinese people have also sought to tap into the benefits of the western education and they have send their children to their learning institutions. This trend has taken root in china and more students each year go abroad for higher education. However, this trend comes with various advantages and a fair share of disadvantages that have been discussed in this research paper. The motives and results of this trend has also been evaluated to establish the core reasons and impact of pursuing western education as a Chinese. The pressures which come with studying in abroad are also elucidated in detail in a bid to explicate this trend and evaluate its value for the learner, parent and the society.

Globalization and internationalization has led to increased cooperation between countries. Preparing students to meet the global challenges has prompted parents especially in China have preferred to take their children in western countries for advanced education. They take this action for varied reasons but lately it has become a trend. Chinese population has posed a huge challenge on quality of education, limited capacity to enroll new students, lack of competition mechanism, poor student-teaching relationship due to huge student numbers, difficulty in joining college, exposure to the advanced western culture, learning English and other foreign languages etc are among the factors parents consider. Though studying abroad is associated with many advantages, it also comes with many disadvantages. In 2006, there were about 134,000 Chinese students have studied abroad and in 2016, this number increased to 544,500 people(Statista). Why did this number suddenly increase that much? This research paper is centered on answering this question and the various advantages and disadvantages of studying in a foreign country.
Benefits:
The western developed countries education system is better than China's. Western education systems are well funded and their facilities more equipped. All the necessary equipment and tools to develop a learner centered education system are availed. it has been developed and modified through history to be learner centered and wholistic in preparing the learner for their career prospects. In china, our education system was imported from the west and it took a long time to be assimilated and fashioned to meet the needs of the Chinese. Secondly, it is still in development phase since china became a republic in the 20th century and it has been building the education system amid other industries necessary for economic and social development. Additionally, in China is a populous country and has a large number of students limited number of teachers. Teachers are unable to offer quality service to each child in large class settings. A typical class has more than the recommended number of students. These issues have collectively led to diminishing quality of china’s education system forcing some people to turn to western countries to get a better service.
Since the western education system is centuries in the making, the system has been tweaked to deliver to be learner centered and help students live up to their dream. Their system of education is based on tested and proven ideas that make the system reliable than any other in the world. They are the exporters of the formal education and most of the educational literature has studied western education thus adding to their wealth of information on how to improv their education system. Western education system pays more attention to the student’s abilities, life and adaptability to ensure they do their best. On the other hand, China’s education system is more information oriented focusing on accumulating information rather than showing how to apply that education to real life problems and resolving them. in the global stage of labor economics, the western education system is more adaptable and thus outdo Chinese education system.
Students who study abroad get an excellent opportunity to develop other skills like social skills in interaction. These students stay away from their friends and family for long periods of time in foreign land with different t culture and environment. These conditions make these students more independent and resilient to common human problems like stress and loneliness. They develop other important skills like hard-work that gives them an edge to survive on foreign land. These ulterior skills developed by these students go a long way into making them maneuver other challenges in life. Living independently also helps them to learn how to balance their life and socializing, learning and how to allocate their resources specifically money to meet their needs while away from their home country and their family (Atkinson).
Studying abroad comes with experiencing new cultures, traditions, environment, customs, beliefs among other things. Travelling across the world in search of education comes with an extra package of learning the aforementioned things. As the old saying goes, "It is better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books” (Yi Liu). The host country has diverse traditions the students have to can enrich their own connotations and insights in order to understand of other countries ' development model, economics and social life. This is especially important if they want to settle in these countries or if they want to bring that culture to their home countries.
Disadvantages
On the other hand, studying abroad comes with its own set of problems. Firstly, it comes with immense psychological stress that hampers the learning process itself. Some studies have revealed that students in middle school they are not particularly ready to handle life in foreign land or make well informed choices about their lives. While still struggling with their identity, they are confounded with another problem of having to take care of themselves and seek knowledge in a society different from their own. Students in middle school are having self-familiar period in psychological way (Experience Human Development), they are like the trapeze in the air, has stretched out to seize the hands of the childhood. At this crucial moment, what they actually need is a relatively linked and stable social and cultural environment in order to solve the crisis of self-awareness and the formation of independent self-awareness. Quite on the contrary happens and foreign abroad study brings environmental mutations. The way of life, culture, traditions and norms in foreign land are different and often lead to xenophobia. Thus, students in middle school without fully developed psychoanalysis of every element in their environment become sappy and often make wrong decisions. Thus, these students and even adults develop inferiority complex, low self-esteem and other psychotic problems which affects their learning process.
It is vey likely that children from other countries are caught in the culture shock that comes with being in foreign lands. Countries like Britain and America cultures tend to be perceived as bad and immoral by other countries. Students who come to these countries have to adapt to the new culture whilst retaining the morals indoctrinated in their motherland. Those with weak self-control are carried by the wave of western social lives and if they are not well guided or advised, they find themselves suffering in the pitfalls of the foreign culture. The parents and the society are the Trinity Education essential factors (MSS research), the key link of parent’s education flaw, has increased the possibilities of children to go astray. Thus, in foreign countries the parenting element is greatly limited and these children are more likely to go astray and make poor choices in their lives that come with hefty consequences.
