Agile Frameworks Works
Scrum
Scrum is an agile framework that encompasses the use of philosophy in developing a product. It encourages fast product development through extensive adaptation and thorough product analysis using agile principles (Orlov et al., 2021). It is an agile framework that focuses primarily on leadership and regular delivery of products. As an agile development framework, Scrum helps the product development team focus on collaboration with different teams and creating unique characteristics, hence delivering products at the end of the print (Saleh, 2019). Scrum reaches this goal by leveraging experimental and innovative approaches, making it an incremental and iterative framework that uses a 2-4-week sprint to complete product development. The process of product development that uses Scrum as an agile framework provides the team that involves the development team, scrum master, and owner of the product predefined roles to complete work in sprints (fixed-length time).
Kanban
One of the popular agile frameworks is Kanban, which is usually used for DevOps software development and implementation of agile processes. The framework applies the need for full work transparency and real-time communication (Orlov et al., 2021). Using the kanban board, the framework allows for visual representation of work items, providing the development team members a platform to see and understand the state of each piece of work at any given time. It is an agile development framework based on the philosophy of continuous improvement (Saleh, 2019). As a result, the project’s work items are pulled from the backlog of products into free-flowing work. Kanban works by applying visual cues to allow project development team members to keep the process steady flowing, allowing them to prevent a buildup of excess inventory at any point of the line of production.
ScrumBan
As the name suggests, the ScrumBan agile framework uses kanban and scrum methodology characteristics in product development. It is a hybrid approach that applies all the features of the first two frameworks to help the team in project management (Myers, 2016). One of Scrum methodology’s characteristics involves sprints, also called time-fixed boxes, but allows for the easy and flexible process of handling tasks and work. As a result, it adapts to the continuous and steady flow of Kanban’s work principles (Matthies, 2018). Most teams use this framework while transitioning from scrum methodology to Kanban as it provides the Kanban team with more work flexibility in using the scrum framework.
Comparison of the Frameworks
Predetermined roles and rituals of the members are used in the scrum methodology to gain an organized approach to product development. In contrast, the predetermined ceremonies and roles are absent in the kanban methodology, which allows it to provide a platform of flexibility (Orlov et al., 2021). In the process of project management, ScrumBan creates a balance due to Kanban flexibility and Scrum’s predetermined roles and rituals. Besides, in the Scrum agile framework, fixed time and print is used to set time for tasks’ completion. In contrast, the Kanban methodology uses a continuous flow approach to ensure flexible project management (Saleh, 2019).
On the other hand, Scrum applies a scrum structure of time-boxed to attain the much-needed flexibility. In the case of changing project requirements, the Kanban methodology provides team members with a platform to modify procedures effectively in response (Zayat & Senvar, 2020). Scrum lacks flexibility in the middle of sprints or fixed times, as there is a given structure to follow. In terms of flexibility, ScrumBan brings the balance between the flexibility of Kanban and the structure of time boxes to offer flexibility.
When Each Framework is Used
In projects with well-defined requirements, it is important to apply scrum framework as it is based on the time-boxed and organized approach to project management. Furthermore, the project requires an agile methodology that completes specific deadlines because of a predictable release cycle. The le scrum framework works effectively. It is also helpful in projects where certain rituals and duties are defined for team members (S...
