Define the following terms using the information in the text book. Don’t guess at the definition or significance of these terms. They can be easily confused with other similar terms. (75- 100 words each)
1 Stressors (define)
1 Generally, a stressor could either be a chemical, biological, physical, or environmental stimulus that can cause stress to an organism. For humans, stressors could either be physical or psychological. On the one hand, physical stressors are those that causes a lot of strain on our body, as compared to the usual. Psychologically speaking, stressors are those that we perceive as negative or threatening, causing the release of hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline.
2 Anticipatory Stressors a) define b) provide examples from your life
2 Anticipatory stressors are the negative feelings, perception, or emotion about the uncertainty of the future. It makes the people think as that as if “something might go wrong”.
3 In my life, some example of anticipatory stressors are my habits of constantly worrying about not being able to finish a task completely before I lie down. There is almost always the thought inside my head, that something my go wrong in the future if I wasn’t able to complete the task in its entirety (i.e., writing an essay).
3 Encounter Stressors a) define b) provide examples from your life
4 Encounter stressors are the kind of negative emotions, feelings, or thoughts that arise from “contact overload”, that is when there is a need to interact with a lot of people.
5 Some example of an encounter stressor that I usually feel is finding myself around a lot of people during the time when I am not in the mood to interact with another person. What is most stressful is the need to come up with the right questions about other people’s days, during an encounter.
4 Time Stressors a) define b) provide examples from your life
6 Simply said, time stressors are the kind of stressors that is brought about by time. It could either be through the perception of the perception of a person that there is not enough time, or even the fact that there really isn’t enough time to complete a task.
7 One of the most common time stressors that I experience is the anxiety brought about by my habit of procrastinating. During times when I actually have something to do, I usually delay the most important things and do those which are “easier” instead. In turn, this causes a lot of time stressors when the deadline comes near.

8 Situational stressors are those negative events or happenings, that a person lacks control of, thereby causing negative emotions or stress.
9 An example of a situational stressor that I usually feel relates to times when exam papers are returned only to show that they are only average or close to failing. This causes frustration on my part. These things that I lack control of poses as some of the most stressful situations in my life.

10 Enactive strategies are those methods employed to reduce stress by eliminating the stressors around those environments. One such example of an enactive strategy are actions causing to be in a new environment, without the previous stressors (i.e., changing jobs).

Resiliency strategies are those that relates to the person’s ability to deal with any stressors around him. In other words, it is the means where a person is able to deal with the challenges in life and get back up.
