Summary This novel is centered around Margaret Simon, a young girl of eleven years who has recently relocated to a new town in New Jersey. She is forced to question and deal with such issues as body changes, religion, and belonging to a group of one's peers. Margaret grows up in a household with an argued religion of her mother being a Christian and her father being Jewish. It needs to be seen how she engages with the divine. However, one can assume that communication with Him is done by always seeking His understanding concerning several issues that affect human identity and the progression displayed in life. Theme The principles on which the series bases its themes are the concept of the protagonist establishing an identity, the process of dealing with teenage years, and the consideration of faith.
