This statement indicates the importance of restructuring literacy activities to meet students' needs while giving educators professional autonomy (Keddie et al., 2024). Some schools, for instance, implement "strategies of the week," all teachers must use a standard concept map or have a similar word wall related to their current unit of study. In my experience, using a similar tool for all students in the classroom proved relatively ineffective. A literacy strategy should be tailored to a student’s needs. Disciplinary literacy moves away from isolated content-area strategies and clarifies what teachers can do to help their students learn more effectively. Disciplinary literacy strategies are more effective in teaching because the tools deepen content knowledge, which enriches the learning experience (Hughes, 2021). Content-area writing is similarly specific to each discipline. This suggests that the techniques incorporated in content writing depend on the discipline. In classrooms, it helps students introspect and analyze the content. In short, disciplinary literacy is about doing the work of the disciplines instead of merely reading about it.
