The mentor and the selected text provide more information about the Holocaust, which is suitable for grade 8 students. This plan provides a summary of the given texts, which indicates the impact of the holocaust on children. It provides an excerpt of the supporting text and its readability. Assessment tools like SMOG measure the readability level of the text. The qualitative aspect of the text is assessed to analyze the different themes analyzed. The text pair is assessed to understand the relationship between the tests and their impact on the learner. Summary of Texts As an eighth-grade social studies teacher, I chose Intergenerational Consequences of the Holocaust by Dashorst et al. (2019) and the Diary of Anne Frank, which both discuss critical aspects of the Holocaust. The article Intergenerational Consequences provides insight into the impact of the holocaust on the offspring’s mental health. Based on the article provides findings on parental mental health problems that impact the quality of parenting. The article addresses the impact of stress on the holocaust survivors since the ordeal negatively impacted them. The findings indicated that the offspring experienced heightened vulnerability after the holocaust. Trauma was transmitted to the offspring from the parents, undermining their quality of life. Therefore, the article highlights the intergenerational impact of violence since it impacts the offspring. The book on the Diary of Anne Frank by Otto Frank highlights the life of a young Jewish girl who led a seemingly everyday life with her parents and older sister. The book provides an overview of a young's girls perspective of life during the holocaust (Frank, 2020). Anne's family had to flee Germany to the Netherlands due to the Holocaust. The family had to go into hiding in a Secret Annex. The book highlights the difficulties of growing up in fear of being killed. Growing up was quite an adventure since they constantly had to fear for their lives. Anne does not get along with her mother because she feels her mother does not understand her. The Diary of Anne Frank indicates that Anne had a turbulent relationship with her mother, which was influenced by their demanding situations. Anne matured faster because she had to deal with constant fear and terror. Therefore, the article and the book are similar in that both have the theme of the impact of the holocaust on the intergenerational offspring of the Jewish members. Excerpt of Supporting Texts The diary highlights Anne's little empathy towards her mother during her time in the Secret Annex. In Act 1 Scene 4, Anne experiences a nightmare that wakes her up from sleep, which causes her to scream (Frank, 2020). The commotion that she causes wakes others up, including her mother, Mrs. Frank, who comes to her rescue. However, instead of opening up to her mother, she prefers not to but to keep it to herself. Anne wants to be in her father's company instead of her mother. Mrs. Frank goes to her husband to tell him that their daughter wants to see her instead. After a nightmare, Anne was engulfed in fear and wanted to be in her father's company. Mrs. Frank feels like her daughter is not interested in her since she does not want to be affectionate with her.
