Understanding the importance of a good relationship between the nurse practitioner and the patient is important for any nursing student. It allows him to be able to develop his capacity for rapport building and good values while also maintaining the objective and professional tone in interacting with the patients. Accordingly, one of the things that the author of this paper has learned throughout the course was that honestly, transparency, and adherence to the nursing standards could help build a firm foundation for the trust built around the practitioner and the patient.
Holistic Care Management
One of the independent core competencies for this course was the use of screening and diagnostic strategies in the development of diagnoses. Screening and diagnostic strategies are important for any nurse practitioner since this would allow him to be able to determine any possible abnormality, which suggests the presence of an illness. However, aside from knowing what is normal and abnormal, the author has realized that the ability to correctly use the proper diagnostic treatment could also help in building trust between the nurse and the other stakeholders. In an article written by Dawson-Rose et al. (2016), the authors realized that proper knowledge about the right treatment procedures could help establish trust, especially in cases when the nurse provides adequate healthcare literacy to the patient. During the course, the author has observed that patients and families are more likely to build trust towards the practitioner who is confident and knowledgeable about what they are doing. A conversation with some of the families would show that this kind of trust emanates from the family’s belief that the nurse is helping them rather than merely increasing the treatment and diagnostic procedures in order to gain more money from the patients.
