PICOT Question
In adult patients receiving infusion therapy at home (P), how does nursing care during therapy (I) compared to standard care in a hospital or clinic (C) affect patient satisfaction, treatment adherence, and health outcomes (O) over the proposed 15-month nursing intervention (T)?
Problem Statement
Modern healthcare has enabled infusion therapy outside medical facilities such as hospitals and clinics, with adult patients using them in their homes. Home-based infusion therapy is on the rise because of the emphasis on patient-centered care and attempts to better patients' quality of life in chronic disease conditions. Consequently, nurse therapies done at home during such sessions must be examined and optimized for efficacy instead of being imagined as similar to those performed at an institution. Advantages that come with home-based infusion therapy include increased patient autonomy, improved well-being, and lower healthcare expenditures (Ebhabha et al., 2023). Meanwhile, nursing care in these sessions remains problematic. There is a need to examine how nursing interventions during home-based infusion therapy affect patient satisfaction, treatment adherence, and health outcomes compared to a hospital or clinic setting. Patient satisfaction is critical to home-based infusion treatment effectiveness (Diez et al., 2021). Home nursing care poses different challenges and opportunities than hospitals or clinics. Therefore, it becomes essential to understand patient satisfaction in this environment and how nurse interventions influence it. As for successful treatment, there must be a thorough investigation of treatment adherence towards improvement from one end to another during the home-based infusion therapy. Patient adherence involves taking medications correctly, following a regimen properly, self-monitoring, and communicating with healthcare providers (Hei et al., 2021; Sany et al., 2020). Designing interventions encouraging patients' active involvement in care requires understanding how nursing activities impact treatment adherence. Health outcomes are measures of the effectiveness of any healthcare intervention (Haldane et al., 2019). Changes from hospital-based to home-based infusion therapy issues should not affect health results. Thus, this study seeks to explore the complex association between therapeutic processes and health results through nursing, thus ensuring that migration sites do not impact patient care service provision. The study seeks to address the knowledge gap regarding the effect of nurse care in home-based infusion therapy on patient satisfaction, treatment adherence, and health outcomes.
Population
The population of interest encompasses adult patients with various healthcare needs and diseases receiving home infusion therapy. Customizing nurses' treatments to align with this population's specific problem-solving and function abilities is vital. Age, cognitive function, and medical complexity are factors that affect the functional ability of this population as well as its problem-solving capacity, which encompasses all aspects of life. Some people receiving infusion therapy can manage themselves, while others rely significantly on the assistance given by healthcare providers or caregivers (Wiley et al., 2019). Nursing interventions must be designed to meet the population's diverse needs because this group is heterogeneous. Problem-solving by such a large group is also indicative. These issues show why the interventions should be adapted to adults needing home care infusion therapy with varying levels of competence in their functional skills and problem-solving abilities. Patients at risk may struggle with administering medications, seeking help, or recognizing difficulties (Beuscart et al., 2019).
Nursing Intervention
The suggested nursing intervention is comprehensive and patient-centered care for home-based infusion treatment. This approach requires customization of nursing procedures to promote patient satisfaction, treatment adherence, and health outcomes. For home-based infusion therapy, nurses develop trust and an excellent patient experience (Brunelli et al., 2019). Nursing care is essential for the provision of medication during therapy. To ensure infusions' safety and efficiency, they give precise dosing, watch out for adverse responses, and intervene promptly (Hei et al., 2021). In this case, nurses bring their expertise in educating patients on their infusion therapy issues, answering their concerns, and clearly instructing them, thus improving treatment adherence. Awareness about a patient's condition and the rationale behind prescribed actions contributes to autonomy, increasing treatment adherence. Also, they help the clients communicate with hea...
