As a component of this project, I was able to shadow and interview my mentor, the Life Enrichment Coordinator at American House Senior Living. The mentor is important in the planning and execution of programs that meet the demands of the residents, such as those with dementia. Their advice was helpful to understand how to assist residents in improving their mental and emotional well-being, which is aligned with the goals of my project. Challenges and Rewards of the Position As I was inquiring with my mentor on the most difficult and the most fulfilling parts of their job, they referenced that the unfamiliarity of residents' character is the most difficult part of the job. They said that every day is different and they never know what to expect, as the moods and behaviors of residents might change quickly. Such instability demands patience, flexibility, and excellent people skills. Conversely, the best part of the job is seeing the achievements of residents through the activities. The involvement of residents and the fact that they enjoy themselves is a very fulfilling experience, as it serves as evidence of the program's effectiveness and the positive effect they have on the well-being of residents (Park & Bae, 2021).
