There is greater control and ability to decide on issues affecting the people than a representative democracy where the representatives are elected and influence policies. The main advantage of direct democracy is that it allows the citizens to influence laws and policies directly. It is beneficial for the citizens to practice direct democracy, including through referendums and ballot initiatives. There is more focus on transparency and accountability under direct democracy since there is active public participation in the political process and even recalls and referendums.
