Final Exam Short Essay Questions (10 points each) Choose 5 of the following 8 prompts. Respond to each prompt in (at least) 2 paragraphs. Write the letter of the prompt you are responding to at the beginning of each of your answers and be sure to address all questions included in the prompts you choose. Answers should be based on course material ONLY- readings, videos, discussion activities, websites/data sources, etc. No use of outside sources- books, websites, etc. Answers are checked for plagiarism, including use of A.I. or A.I.- enhanced platforms (like Grammarly), and any instances of suspected cheating will be referred to administration per relevant course and college policies. Describe in your own words the following two frameworks discussed in class that help us to understand the importance of human connection in the development of individuals and families. Explain how each of these two frameworks can be used to provide a more inclusive and comprehensive way to understand families- their experiences, outcomes, or functioning in society. Using recent research and data on housing in our state and nation provided in the course, identify three specific housing issues, problems or related inequities that families currently face. How are each these specific issues compounded by intersectional issues of race, class, gender, immigration status, or more? What are three specific examples of ways that cultural representations and social standards of beauty impact families? How are these issues related to barriers diverse artists or creators might face in accessing a career in art and media? Provide a specific solution or intervention that would positively disrupt this cycle. Define and describe the three types of social movements described in the text- reform, revolutionary and reactionary movements. Provide and discuss an example of each type of movement working on issues focused on or related to families. (These can be from the course material or just ones that you can identify not covered in the course.) What are three different concepts or types of info/data/classifications sociologists might use to study food insecurity that we covered in our class? What does each concept, type of info or data reveal about diverse families and food in the United States? Propose a specific solution to create greater food security for families based on each of the three. What are three areas of social justice or injustice that were areas of focus in Chapter 8- Justice and how they relate to or impact families? Identify and discuss three ways that we might focus our attention on issues of justice/injustice that would help us to better support families and address issues impacting them.
