It is clearly known that losing a job is a stressful condition. The person will evaluate and focus on addressing the issue, which involves stress appraisal. Lazarus and Folkman explain that stress appraisal is the process through which the person evaluates and deals with the stressful event (13). People are different based on how they view what is occurring to them and their alternatives for coping. There are two stages (forms) of stress appraisal. The two forms depend on each other in order to finish the appraisal process. Primary appraisal refers to the cognitive process, which happens when a person is appraising (evaluating) whether the event is relevant and stressful to her. During this stage, the person makes a decision whether the event is a threat to her, causes a loss or harm on her or is a challenge to her. The person has lost a job; this is a threat or a challenge to her. He has to develop positive stress response in order to cope with the situation. He sees the stressor as a harm or loss because he has already experienced the damage.
