Portable DVD players were invented so as to make the possibility of watching videos away from home a reality. The first DVD player was made in 1998, and the company responsible was Panasonic. This revolutionary gadget is practical for on go use, and can perform other functions as well such as playing music from audio CDs and also displaying still pictures from digital cameras and camcorders.
There are many portable DVD players currently available in the market. The major brands in this very vibrant market are Panasonic, Toshiba, Philips, Sony, GoVideo, Coby and Samsung. These models represent the high end segment of the market. The lower end of the market is dominated by such brands as Astar, Mustek, CyberHome and AudioVox. Currently the fastest moving brands are Panasonic DVD LS-90, Philips LOUD ONE 1000/37, Sony DVP-FX705, Coby TF-DVD 500.
A portable DVD player is small enough to be carried around whether in a flight, camping trip or any other place where one may find themselves waiting for some time. This gadget is able to function with its own power supply; one will not have to plug it to a power supply in order to use it, one needs to ensure that it is charged before a trip.
