Print Advertisement Critique –messaging and appeal in advertisements
•So the instructions for the assignment can be found on the file named "Instructions for Essay"
•The paper should be MLA Format
•I also added 4 jpeg files which are print ads that I think are good enough to be critiqued (you only need one). I wasn't able to download the pictures so I only took a screenshot of it. The magazine from where the pictures came from, are from this link: http://vogue(dot)eoncontent(dot)ebscohost(dot)com/1912464#&pageSet=0
I'm not sure if you'll have access to that link, it's from flipster, but the actual details for the magazine is this:
Nov 2018. Publisher: Conde Nast Publications. ISSN/eISSN: 0042-8000. Categories: Lifestyle; Women's Interest
Description: The foundation of Vogue's leadership and authority is the brand's unique role as a cultural barometer for a global audience. Vogue places fashion in the context of culture and the world we live in - how we dress, live and socialize; what we eat, listen to and watch; who leads and inspires us. Vogue immerses itself in fashion, always leading readers to what will happen next. Thought-provoking, relevant and always influential, Vogue defines the culture of fashion.
•If you're not able to find the magazine, then just choose a print ad of your choice, and just let me know because I need to print that specific page for submission.
•I need 3 sources for the essay
- First source would be the print ad itself
- Second source should be any academic journal or a peer reviewed
- Third source is optional, you might want to talk about "Advertising's Fifteen Basic Appeals" by Jib Fowles because we discussed it in class.
•Please also use some direct quotations as its part of the requirement
•3 Pages of essay, and 4th page would be for the the works cited
•Lastly, I also added a file named "example essay" so that you have a guide.
I want the essay to be good, but not like perfect or flawless. I want it to be believable to be considered as my work, so my professor won't doubt me. I can actually do this essay, it's just that I'm really busy this week. I hope I can get this by October 19, Friday on/before 10am, Thank you.

Advertisers use different techniques to persuade the intended target market and ads on beauty are most targeted at young women, and some are luxurious focusing on gthe luxury market. The ‘sparkle of youth in your eyes’ by Estйe Lauder is marketed as an effective treatment against eyes ageing and provides the sparkle of youths, while it is also applicable to all ethnicities. The main message behind the ad is “New Advanced Night Repair Eye with10X Concentrated Repair Technology. Repairs from UV, Pollution even Blue Light” (Vogue). Like other ads in the Vogue Magazine, the chosen ad increasingly targeted a youthful female customer base by linking beauty and radiance with the use of self care products. While the typical beauty care products are makeup and skin care, Estйe Lauder‘s Advanced Night Repair eye care is a different product, which highlights youthfulness and eye protection.
Fashion and beauty and is mainly aimed at women, and the magazines in the industry are mainly for and about women and mostly focus on the ideals of femininity and beauty. Vogue magazine is relevant in the beauty market and one of the most influential the choice to place the ad in the magazine shows that the company understood the relevance of the magazine to the youthful female audience. Even the choice of the model to represent product is a young female, and this targets young women and touches on femininity with eye ware linked to anti-ageing. The most common anti aging products are skin care, but the eyes are equally important as people view and judge whether the beauty ideas are met.
In the advertisement the headline “The sparkle of youth in your eyes” clearly focuses on beauty and eye care as represented by the youthful female model. The messaging is strengthened by the supposed features of the product on night repair as well as reducing ‘signs of eye ageing lines, puffiness and dryness’ (Vogue). Estйe Lauder has marketed itself as a beauty firm selling diverse range of beauty products, where the targeted customers are urged to unlock their beauty using the company’s products. The fashion magazines sell lifestyles and focus on the fashion, beauty and the “feminine" interests. In any case Vogue magazine is one of the world's fashion influencers, which even focuses on the latest trends and features like fashion, accessories, beauty, art, style, interior decoration and entertainment.
