Two activities which I really enjoy doing are: (i) doing community service; and (ii) leading. I am drawn to the idea of an institution which emphasizes leadership by way of participation in community service. I generally like to lead others. In high school, I served as a leader in many activities for instance retreats and service trips which were very successful. I consider leadership as an ability and potential of contributing greatly to the community organization, a given cause or school.
At several stages of my life, there have been times where I experienced my major contributions, at times in an informal, and sometimes in a completely formal set up. I have skills of leadership that I got from partaking in the Associated Student Body (ASB) in high school and my responsibility entailed overseeing an ASB class that consisted of over 30 students. As the Head of ASB at the high school, I was also responsible for planning and organizing social events for student participants. I finished and graduated from high school as the president and head of ASB. My other leadership experience was when I was chosen as the leader of a project team for a quality improvement project at the workplace at a small company. I was able to successfully manage a group of 6 other employees, each having more experience in their field in relation to what I had. Even though I was the least experienced and the youngest member of the team, I had something that each of the other members lacked; the willingness to ask questions that sounded stupid, as well as a fearless mind. As the team leader, I was able to define individual roles of the various team members, and I was able to effectively coordinate the group members.
