Dear Sir/Madam,
I strongly believe that death penalty is a very harsh sentence that should not be upheld. Humans err in their judgment and this contributes to irrevocable sentencing. There have been cases of persons that were executed based on inaccurate evidence in the US. Existing evidence indicates that the legal process is marred with mistakes where people have been sentenced to death and others released from death row upon uncovering of evidence in support of their innocence. Cameron Todd Willingham is one example of wrongful death penalty victim. He was executed based on faulty arson evidence that he had burnt his three children to death (Valeontis n.p.). The state of Texas indicated that the execution was wrongful and issued an exoneration order in 2010 after he had been executed in 1994. This clearly indicates that execution is a harsh sentence particularly because it is irrevocable.
Death penalty advocates indicate that it is a form of religiously acceptable retribution. They indicate that murder disrupts justice and executing the murderer restores the lost balance.
