“The Wife Lament” is an Anglo-Saxon poem describing the story of a lady whose husband exiles. The poem consists of several interpretations of who the woman was and everything she was experiencing. The wife was murdered by her husband, and she is speaking from the grave. As the poem progresses, the speaker narrates how the kinsmen, influenced by a darkened thought, “began to consider in secret” to separate the two in lines 11-13 (Beck n.p). This occurs when the woman seeks service or somebody to fulfill her desires. During her exile, she committed adultery, which was the reason behi
