Class Reading: The Life of Bialas
1) Break the essay into the following sections
Section 1: p1-4
Section 2: p5-7
Section 3: p8-10
Section 4: p11-13
2) Begin with the big picture. Give the sections a label that describes its job in the essay. How does each section function in relation to the rest of the essay?
3) FORM: Draw a shape for the essay’s form. What is the physical appearance? How does the argument move and bend around a problem through each paragraph and through each section?
4) IDEA: what new idea does the author uncover through their intellectual work? Is this idea implicit or explicit? How does she get there? What rhetorical moves does the writer make to deepen their initial idea?
5) Spend about 10 mins reflecting on your work:
