The citizen united decision
The citizen united ruling, which was made in January 2010, opened the floodgates of uncontrolled monetary flow into the United States politics. This law tossed out the corporate and union ban that controlled the independent expenditure and financing electioneering communication. This law has given the corporate world and labor union the power and green light to splash and spend unlimited sum of monies on ads and other elections tools. History has it that, well money oiled campaigns usually guarantee the election or defeat of individual candidate. The more the money an individual has the more power to change and influence the election is in his or her favor as opposed to the manifesto and the individual leadership skills. In short the ruling Okayed corporations and labor unions to give money to candidates running for federal office. In its defense the court said these funds were not being used in the coordination of campaign hence do not give rise to corruption or appearance of corruption. This is unrealistic since there is no clear cut guideline on the way the funds are spent by political parties hence the best way to control the use or misuse of funds is through a ban on funding by corporate and labor union through elections packs. There have been incidences of last minute election packs such as the infamous super packs that enable donations of seven and eight figure from people like casino magnate and owner Sheldon Adelson who together with his family has given more than $40 million towards campaigns for protection by the government of the recipient candidat...
