The models of disability are used to define impairment and provide a basis upon which society and the government can device strategies of meeting the needs of the disabled. The major models of disability include functional, medical, and environmental frameworks. Therefore, the work focuses on brief overview of the models, traditional treatment of the impaired, and an opinion on whether a change in environment can make them more productive.
Medical model of disability holds that impairment results from a person’s mental or physical challenges. For instance, insane persons are seen to be impaired because they lack the mental capacity to make right choices.
