Introduction
CAD/CAM stands for computer-aided-design/ computer-aided-manufacturing. It is an automated machine that utilizes three-dimensional images to plan for a workpiece using a computer. Its three components are the scanner, software CAD, and hardware CAM. The scanner is used to create dental preparation based on the tooth models. The software provides a full 3D view to formulate the restoration patterns—lastly, the hardware CAD converts the software's virtual images into an actual model (Jacob).
Advantages
First, CAD/CAM promotes single appointment dentistry, which is beneficial due to the less exposure to anesthesia and the non-use of provisional or temporary restorations, thereby removing the necessity for re-cementations.
