Background
Americans tended to view time in terms of nature and religion in the nineteenth century, to the extent that changes in time consciousness is a complex process that cannot be captured by a single story on development (Allen 10). The role of globalization in influencing temporal flexibility when relying on technology shows that there is a need to highlight on the potential role of the media in influencing mass culture. In any case, globalization does capture some aspects of changes in the society overtime where capitalism has increasingly played a prominent role in an interconnected world.
Time as a network technology
The use of public clocks was a common feature during the Gilded period, and communities would rely on them where there was common time, in a near where few people carried let alone owned watches (McCrossen 229). The concept of network technology typically involves a server in a network which has information that can easily be accessed and shared in the network operating system. Nonetheless, clients typically request for information form the server, and this initiates the process of transmitting information. As the governments increasingly sought to use standard time, they increasingly determined what was acceptable as governments had authority to set national time (McCrossen 223).
The concept of time as a network technology also captures the notion, that people are more likely to have attachment with time to the extent that when symbols of time are removed there is discomfort.
