Name: Professor’s Name: Course: Date: Listening Log My days start early, and for me, music plays a big part in how I approach my day and the mood and attitude I start my days with. I do have days when I wake up dejected and getting overwhelmed with feelings of inadequacy. However, I can confirm and attest to the effect music has had on my life and the way I approach my days. My daily routine is almost a cliché because I do the same things over and over again. I always find ways to switch things from time to time and include new things on my daily routine but generally, it is filled with the same things. On this particular Friday, I decided to record the songs I listened to including those that I did not plan to listen to as I went on my day. This report is crucial as it will help me explain and expound on how music affects my day including the way I respond to it. What When Where Why 1 Alarm music: The Arcade Fire – Wake Up 6:05 am In my room. I know I can easily oversleep, so this song helps me wake up when my alarm goes off. 2 Carpe diem: Lovely Day – Bill Withers 6:30 am In my room preparing for the day I like to wish myself a good day, and this song is perfect 3 Loving life: Fight Song – Rachel Platten/ Roar – Katy Perry 6:45 am In my room preparing for the day (happens when I am exercising as well but on this day though) I have a lot in me, but at times I can be overwhelmed by the day’s schedule. These songs help me fight. They remind me that I have a lot in the tank. 4 Love yourself: Who Says – Selena Gomez 7:00 am In my room/Walking to class. It is easy not to acknowledge one’s effort. So, I always like to remind myself that I am good enough 5 Happy Songs: Happy – Pharrell Williams 7:10 am Walking to class After reaffirming confidence in myself and reminding myself to roar, I have to go through the day happy. So, this song helps me go about my day happy 6 Unidentified hip-hop music, with a lower than usual (for hip hop) tempo and catchy chorus 7:45 am A passing vehicle I believe the driver was enjoying himself. I could see he was shaking his head to the tune of the music 7 Unidentified country music with a danceable tune 10:34 am Promotion stand I was walking by the promotion stand and heard this music playing. I believe what was being promoted had a correlation to country music 8 Tennessee Whiskey – Chris Stapleton 10:50 am During a break in school I love this song and country music. With nothing on my table, I always resort to country music 9 3 hours of uninterrupted classical music 3:00 – 5:00 pm Studying in the library Classical music helps me concentrate, and I always have my headphones on listening to classic music while studying 10 Unidentified reggae song. It had a danceable beat 6:53 pm Corridor as I was walking towards my room One of my neighbors was playing it and I found myself shaking my head in response to the beat 11 Relaxing/Meditation music 10:30 pm In my room To help me relax and reflect on the day’s activities before I retired to bed Discussion As already said, music plays a big part in my life. I always plan and make sure that every song that I listen to impacts and leaves me charged and with a lot of energy for the day. Even though there are songs we listen to that may or may not end up on our playlists, there are those songs that we choose and my log is composed of mainly the ones I paid attention to and I could remember to record. Alarm Music The Arcade fire - Wake up is a song that is perfect for a heavy ‘sleeper’ like me. It starts with heavy guitar playing, and this is often enough to wake me up. I have overslept in the past, and this meant I had to start my day late. So, I had to find something to start my days with energy while also making sure I am fully awake and ready to attack the day.
