Hope you have started writing up your critical essay and your writing is going very well!

I can see most of you have read the AT2 Q&A doc and the slides for Week 10. I’d like to clarify one thing about the ‘1-2 examples’ you can use in your essay as I have received a few inquiries from students. 

Please note that ‘1-2 examples’ refer to ‘1-2’ countries (area) we studied in the unit which have demonstrated emerging media power, such as South Korea, Japan, China, Russia and the Arab world. You can only choose one or two countries (area) for your essay.

However, when you write about each country, you can refer to a few examples. For example, if Japan is one of your selected countries, you can talk about its manga, animation and film to demonstrate Japan’s emerging media power and global influence. However, if you just want to focus on the manga example and give it a very detailed analysis, that is also fine. 

This week is our final teaching week for T3. We will have a new topic on media for minority groups across the world. If you have any last-minute questions about AT2, please feel free to ask your seminar leaders in the seminar.

Introduction
I agree with Thussu (2014) that America's global media and sovereignty are still powerful despite the rivalry by the rest's rise. The upcoming media flows and powers from Asia with the old histories and new global aspirations are the major source of the rivalry against the American media and culture. Mobility in the media industry is considered a major element in the increasingly digitized global communication ecology. The world is connected globally today, and flows of all types of information and entertainment disseminate across the world in real-time. New technologies ensure the making, consumption, and supply of info sophisticated and unrestrained by time-based and spatial barriers. Every individual experiences a profound transformation in the global media today, and America is among the first countries that expressed the digitization of its media industry. Long before any country could produce quality media creations, Hollywood was already making history through its technology-enabled productions that thrilled the world. Today, countries such as China and India have come out strongly with their digitized media, threatening to outgrow America's media industry's abilities and techniques. The American media industry and culture hold a superior position in technology and digitization despite the threats from emerging media controls such as China and India. 
Media in the Global Environment
Although there is an unpredicted growth in the television and communication sector in the international South, the world's media industry is still conquered by the United States. American and Americanized media is available worldwide, facilitated by the formidable political, economic, and technological abilities. The American media dominates the global industry in English, dubbed or indigenized forms. The imprint of the American broadcasting in the world message setting gives the United States a significant advantage. Suppose attributed to the media, the power, which by ownership of the different nets and creation facilities such as digital television and telecommunication networks, makes the American media well-structured and dominant. From the twentieth century to the contemporary date, the United States is still the largest distributor of the world's theatre and information and software and hardware in the global digitized distribution mediums. 
In 2012, the top entertainment companies in the globe were affiliated with the United States. The evidence for this culture attributes to Pax Americans' existence, a trend that dominates digital and interacted theatre. The top five global American-based media firms have recorded benefits from Southern states such as China, Brazil, and India (Thussu, 2014). The media giants from the U.S outthrow their international rivals from entertainment and sport to news and current affairs, extending to social media. It is reasonable to declare that the American entertainment and info networks move and shape the global media and cultural industry. It is one of the fastest-growing industries globally and accounts for over 7% of the global GDP. 
The origins of the "soft" media powers in America cannot be disintegrated from the hard power. It is considered the most influential state in the world's fiscal, political, and military spheres. The same can be expressed by the existence of more than 1,000 military bases globally and the huge defense budget that cannot be matched with any other country in the world. The hard power of the U.S is often the force behind the spread of the American way of life, although the upcoming soft power that exists supports the process. These include the Hollywood acting giants to the digital realms of the era of internet technology. The culture of the United States, from Hollywood to Harvard, has an enormous target than any other nation (BBG, 2012). The influence is determined to have a great history. The United States is home to consumerism and marketing as well as the public affairs sector. This attribute has influenced the development of sophisticated means of influence at the business and government levels. These have a huge impact in determining the civic discourse and influencing isolated behaviors. 
Various government programs have reinforced the flourishing and globalized media in the United States. The successive governments have followed a commercial model of the media. The approach is attributed as one of the reasons for the domination of America in the global media. Broadcasting has a commercial remit from inception and gives the media significant interest and attention. The commercially driven trio of networks in America offers the people mass theatre and general info. The broadcast aspect is in all the tri, Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS), National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), and American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). In all these outlets, games and talent shows are the staples. After the Cold War period, the U.S enthused a profitable dissemination model that expanded to the global reach. The factor made the American media be categorized as an achievement of the copious model. This has generated a dynamic media, issues to the state restriction, and a significant public domain globally. It also results in the attentiveness of media power amongst the private firms.
