An integral part of the Advanced Clinicals/CPOE department is to assess any upcoming projects, to include the need for resources including personnel, equipment, construction, overtime and project completion deadline. We recently went live with our iMobile project which included implementation of mobile devices for communication and notification of alerts for staff at our surgical hospital as there was a critical need for this project as devices were implemented at our main campus but were delayed at our other campus due to the pandemic and limitation of resources. We had to account for the number of staff that would require a desktop version of the application versus a mobile device and submit a budget for device allocation to division and corporate for approval. We also had to account for education resources which included allotment of resources for provisioning staff access to application, device set up, network verification, and development of educational resources for staff. Project Objective
Healthcare is an important field that guarantees a nation’s sustainability, and perhaps, this is an underlying reason why the United States has invested heavily in the healthcare system. However, communication comes out as an enduring problem plaguing the majority of healthcare processes and denying quality care provision. This finding is cemented by Shadid and Thoma’s (2018) research noting that communication error is prevalent in the healthcare system, primarily arising from ineffective hierarchical reporting structure, social structure, and cultural background. In this vein, having a mass notification system installed in healthcare facilities will work a great deal in streamlining healthcare processes. Therefore, the objective of this project is to implement the iMobile, which includes employment of mobile devices for communication and notification of alerts for staff at the surgical hospital due to the critical need for this project as devices were implemented at our main campus but were delayed at our other campus due to the pandemic and limitation of resources. The mobile devices for communication and notification alert systems will be installed in the healthcare setting. Besides, this installation will be accompanied by a series of training to ensure users utilize it efficiently. The project is believed to be completed within ten weeks, and the cost should not exceed $150,000.
Project Boundaries
The iMobile project intends to navigate through emergencies to guarantee normalcy seamlessly. Therefore, developing a system demands a consideration of the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Otherwise, it can be illustrated as “in-scope” and “out-of-scope” elements. The former refers to issues that are initially planned to be included in a project. On the other end, the latter are issues that arise when the project progresses, such as a client asking for features such as payment method to be added. The included elements are those that increase the efficiency of the system. In this respect, the projected system will include mappings, a Marketing Requirement Document (MRD), a design and implementation guide. Further, a DELICATE approach framework will be included responsible for achieving kind notifications (Serral et al., 2020). It will also be important to ensure the system utilizes current technology features such as the 5G network and can be retrieved anywhere. Noteworthy, included will be consideration of updating the software in a manner that guarantees timely information check-in. Out-scope will be client-added features and any increased budget related to the project.
Limitations and Constraints
The iMobile project is set to be affected first from a cost perspective. As many initial costs were projected, some elements may change costs as time progresses. It will not be easy to request more funding for the project. Secondly, time will affect the project by some milestones being delayed because of financial constraints or prevailing circumstances. Having proposed a user interface (UI) will make it challenging to change amidst project completion.

As earlier posted, communication is an enduring healthcare problem. Royal and Kedrowicz (2017) assert that an average of more than 130 million Americans visit emergency rooms annually. Pun et al. (2015) focused on Hong Kong hospitals and revealed that hospital management had failed to communicate efficiently with its client. These findings show that mass notification system effects will go beyond streamlining healthcare processes to helping patients receive personalized care. Hospital management, nurses, and patients are the main beneficiaries of this healthcare innovation.
