Current Technology in Biomechanics

Essay Instructions:
Discuss current technology used in biomechanical analysis. Include a description of the following tools: 2D video analysis, 3D video analysis, force plates, EMG, and wearable movement sensors (known as inertial measurement units [IMUs]). In addition to describing these tools, discuss how a fitness professional (or strength coach) can use them to enhance sport performance and/or help prevent athletic injuries.

Current Technology in Biomechanics Student Name Institution Course Professor Date Current Technology in Biomechanics Biomechanics technology has provided fitness and strength trainers with advanced instruments to quantify human mobility. Such enhancements increase the performance and minimize the risk of injury. In 2D video analysis, either one or both sagittal or frontal camera motions are captured. It is cheap and can be used in the field but does not record depth data or rotating information, which is inaccurate in measuring joint movement. According to Erdman et al., (2024), 2D criteria are correlated to the 3D measures but with certain limitations. 2D can assist coaches in identifying gross movement faults such as knee valgus landing and offer quick feedback. 3D video analysis (usually marker-based or markerless multicamera systems) provides complete three-dimensional movement and provides better joint kinematics and kinetics. Coaches can identify subtle imbalances or asymmetries or inefficiencies in techniques in an athlete with 3D data and correct them to add specific drills. Force plates are to measure the ground reaction forces during a task which may be to jump,...
