Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,
REF: Addressing Barriers to Global Environmental Solutions.
I am writing to emphasize the necessity of international cooperation in combating global environmental problems that occur in all countries. As climate change, deforestation, pollution, and other ecological problems are recognized as critical, the commitment to solutions that might work on the global level has been the subject of debate. Firstly, political, economic, and cultural limitations are still a big challenge to society. It is this ethnographic approach to these obstacles that this letter aims to present and suggest concrete potential sequential strategies that may lead to the creation of more fruitful and possibly incorporating environmentalism.
Political Barriers
From a political perspective, political matters, national interests, political systems, and the differences in commitment levels to environmental causes explain why countries cannot come together and respond to environmental problems in a coordinated manner. For example, the American Anthropological Association (2020) points out that states' self-interest dominates, as nations and their governments worry that agreement with ambitious environmental goals may cost them a competitive advantage on the global market or threaten domestic economic growth. Further, the lack of mandatory treaties gives some countries the authority to emit at high rates and go against whatever efforts exist to combat climate change. This lack of enforceable cooperation is partly due to the spirit of short-term political gain over long-term environmentalism, which widens the gap between countries on critical matters.
