Introduction
The role of social media is very significant in the everyday lives of young adults who live in cities. Even though Instagram, TikTok, and X let users communicate with each other, some people are worried about the impact of these platforms on mental health, such as causing anxiety. This study has been designed to find out how social media use relates to anxiety in young adults living in a big city by using suitable methods, ethical rules, and a strong sampling strategy.
Correlational or Causal Relationship
Unlike a study that examines a cause and effect, this study will look for a link between the variables. A researcher using a correlational design can find links among variables that are not artificially made (McBride, 2023). Here, it includes the amount of time spent on social media and the way subjects report their anxiety. These conditions needed for causal research are unrealistic, and it isn’t ethical to place people into them when nothing clinically related is going on. So, a method where correlations are examined is suitable and adheres to good research procedures.
Psychological Measure: Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI)
This investigation will use BAI, a questionnaire of 21 items that measures feelings of nervousness and anxiety. Using numbers from 0 to 3, each item in the checklist describes symptoms that happened within the last week (Beck et al., 1988).

But the BAI usually focuses on symptoms like dizziness instead of symptoms related to mental activity, like frequent worry. In addition, since it relies on a person’s personal review, it can be affected by social pressures or someone’s inaccurate way of seeing themselves.
Ethical Considerations in Using the BAI
It is important to deal with ethical challenges when choosing and using psychological measurements. First, it is important to have informed consent. The purpose of the research must be made clear to them, along with how the data will help the study and their possibility of withdrawing with no...
