The stock market crash in 1929, financial panic, poor fiscal policies, and high tariffs led to the greatest economic depression of all time, characterized by the collapse of businesses and industries, massive unemployment rates, inequality, and overextended investors. The continued devastation of the economy invited diverse views to end the depression (Political Responses to the Great Depression-Franklin D. Roosevelt, n.d.). Between President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal and his rival, Senator Huey Long’s Share Our Wealth strategies, the ideas of President Roosevelt upheld democracy, rebuilt trust, and implemented sustainable measures to sustain the economy, making them supreme ideas. One of the reasons why President Roosevelt’s ideas were more favorable is that they observed and maintained democracy while reviving the economy. While most countries that faced economic depression simultaneously chose to adopt dictatorship and socialism, as Huey proposed, Roosevelt upheld democratic principles (Huey Long, n.d.).
