Include the following:
1. Analyze and evaluate your verbal communication skills as discussed in our text chapter “ Communication Skills in the Information Age”. Using a scale of 1-10, how would you rate them, why?
2. Analyze and evaluate your non-verbal communication skills. Select three non-verbal skills of which you are aware. Using a scale of 1-10, how would you rate them in terms of perceived effectiveness and why? Are you aware of the messages you give to others with your clothing style, hair, eye movements, posture, hand gestures, and facial expressions?
3. Which of your non-verbal communications do you think truly conveys who you are, if any; Why or why not?
4. What would you say is your body's silent message? Why? Is this the message you wish to convey?
5. What is your preference for communication? Do you prefer e-mail, phone calls, text messaging? Why? Are you aware that some people's e-communication skills are good, but their social skills (in person) are poor? Explain why this can happen.
6. Listening skills are as important as the ability to articulate thoughts and feelings. Evaluate your listening skills, what could you do to improve them?

Evaluating one's communication skills is a valuable exercise in self-awareness and personal growth. By analyzing our verbal and non-verbal tendencies, we can identify strengths to capitalize on and areas for improvement. Not only does it help to understand oneself in the current setup, but also plays a significant role in professional growth. After examining my communication approach, I rate myself a 7 out of 10. I generally speak clearly, choose appropriate words for the situation, and use a respectful tone. However, I sometimes tend to speak too quickly or use overly technical language that could be difficult for others to follow. This can be down to my typical assumption that everyone around me understands the things I say and do, at my pace rather than theirs. Slowing down on my speed, being more articulate and clearer , and using plainer language are areas for improvement.
Non-verbal communication is the largest part of communication. Research indicates that 93% of communication is non-verbal. It is also the one that has the biggest chunk of communication cues that often go unnoticed. The non-verbal communication cues include eye contact, posture, facial expression, and others (Schmitz, 2016), but I am mostly aware/familiar with this one. For the Eye contact, I rate will myself (8/10); I typically maintain good eye contact during conversations to show engagement, though I may look away occasionally when thinking. I also value eye contact since it is the one way I can decipher the sincerity and clarity of the person I am communicating with. People often convey messages by how they look at another. Lies and truth can therefore be deciphered in this manner. The second non-verbal skill is Posture, which I rate (6/10). My posture is usually decent but could be better.
