Multiculturalism
Multiculturalism is view in which cultural differences should be promoted, accepted encouraged and respected (Clarke 2015). A nation that supports equal and equitable resources to all citizens irrespective of their religious and ethnic groups without showing any favor to certain race promotes the integration of different cultures (Berry 2016). Multiculturalists advocate for freedom, and respect for all people in a country or nation. Making the Canadian Policy of multiculturalism a mandatory requirement in the 21st century has more gains in society than when it is not adopted. Boosters prefer its a requirement because of the positive impact it can have in a country than the negative impact the policy comes with. Critics view the Canadian strategy on multiculturalism as mosaic madness because of the negative reports that have been experienced since the adoption of the system by the Canadian federal government.
A country that supports and promotes multiculturalism is bound to succeed and at the same time have some issues in the implementation of the policy. The policy has led to a better relationship between the different communities in Canada hence a peaceful environment that is good for economic growth. Foreign investors will want to invest in nations which are peaceful and promote different cultures and religions. Inclusivity of cultures makes people or foreigners feel at ease. Multiculturalism supports social networking between citizens, and a lot of respect is shown to each other’s lifestyle. The policy has promoted the equality of different cultural and religious diversities within a community.
In the years the 1970s multiculturalism emerged in Canada from the rising nationalists and a secessionist movement in French-speaking Quebec (Burnet 1988). It was adopted later adopted in the 1980s by the government of Canada. The policy was developed to meet the cultural requirement, and it advocated for the empowerment of marginalized groups and the social spheres. The state has a rich history of outsourcing its laborer's from other nations like Italy to work in their industries in the 1800s and early 1900s (Burnet 1988). The policy was meant to accommodate all races, ethnic and religious groups. The system has worked in Canada, and if it is made a mandatory by many countries, then the social development will be realized. In Canada, people respect each other’s cultural background and accommodate each other irrespective of their community or religion. It is thanks to the adopted policy in Canada that has made them reach this far. Problems have stood out due to the adoption of the system on multiculturalism, but they have not slowed the country’s motivation on promoting the policy on multiculturalism.
The enactment of the Canadian Multiculturalism Act in 1988 laid a foundation to all immigrants and the native Canadians to understand that they are all equal and should treat each other with respect irrespective of their culture, race and also their religious background. The constitution of Canada recognizes the importance of preserving the multicultural heritage of the Canadians ("Canadian Multiculturalism Act" 2019). Through the act, the Canadian government has communicated and encouraged diversification cultures in the country. Making the policy a mandatory will bridge the gap between the communities and religious societies in the 21st century.
Why Boosters view the policy as “Mandatory Requirement for 21st Century” and Critics view it as "Mosaic Madness."
It is referred to so because of the Importance it presents to the nation as a whole. The Canadian policy on multiculturalism should be made mandatory in the 21st century to other countries of the world because of its benefits. In the history of how Canada grew as a nation one of the main contributors to the economic growth were immigrants from different countries in different parts in Europe like France, Italy, etc. For instance, the Canadian federal government outsourced most of its laborer’s from Italy. The Italian immigrants were assimilated in the Canadians culture and religion, and many of them choose to stay permanently in Canada. Other countries should implement the policy and make mandatory to accommodate immigrants and people who come to settle in your country for them to feel safe, protected and accepted. Criticizing the system due to the fallout of a few cases of discrimination of minority groups should not prevent the implementation of the policy at the national level. Racial discrimination remains a considerable challenge in Canada despite the government's commitment to individual rights geared at promoting national unity. It is the main reason why critics refer to it as mosaic madness.
The policy the Canadian federal government put across helped bring together the different races that migrated to Canada in the late 1800 and 1900s making it the biggest promoter of Multiculturalism as an Ideology (Clarke 2015). The Canadian government promotes the social importance of immigration in public to reach as many people as possible. The policy makes the Canadians feel secure and have the self- confidence in while conducting their business within the country (Ford et al. 2000). It has led to the acceptance of different diverse cultures and mutual respect between colleagues in the workplace, community centers, etc. The building of an inclusive society which accepts all citizens from all cultures was among the main agendas of enacting the policy. Critics do not believe that people from different culture and religion can co-exist without racism and discrimination falling into place. That shouldn’t be the stand because the policy is faced by obstacles which can be fixed over time.
In Canada, the policy has led to social-cultural development of the people. The citizens can socialize, and this leads to a social event that is an essential pillar in economic growth in a country. Canada has different races, ethnic and cultures of people and has integrated well can contribute to the economic development of the nation. They are discriminated from assessing quality services, jobs, etc. The policy helps to minimize social exclusion of individuals. Inclusivity of all cultural diversities brings nationhood and peace to the nation. Some countries which have not emphasized on the need for multiculturalism in the societies has led to major ethical and racial divisions among people in the community. The result of indifferences is chaos while discrimination in the workplace derails the economic growth of the nation. With the modernization and availability of many different cultures in the world, different countries should ad...
