Communication in Nursing
Clear communication in nursing is very essential. For effective communication to take place, the message being conveyed by one party should be understood by the other party receiving it. In nursing, like in any other field, there are various parties involved who require clear and elaborate messages who include the patient, the nurse himself, the patient’s family, the nurse’s co-workers and supervisor and many others and therefore here, communication needs to be as clear as possible between all these parties involved otherwise issues like wrong diagnosis, mistrust, and anxiety and so on may result.
Knowledge in nursing is gained through the study of various theories and conceptual models on which the practitioners are expected to base their practice.in order to be able to put these theories into practice, it is important to first understand what exactly a theory is so that the practitioner may know what he is actually trying to relate his knowledge applied to. Well, many people have tried to define a theory in their own language in their various fields. However, according to me, a theory is a hypothesis. This means that it is a statement or a set of statements that may or may not be true. Why I am saying this is because there are theories that have been proven to be true for example the Pythagoras theorem in mathematics and those that are not yet agreed upon like the Lamarckian theory regarding heredity in biology and, no wonder Fawcett was trying to argue that there should be general criteria to be used to tell which theories are true and which ones are not.
