A Current Controversial Environmental Issue
One of the most controversial environmental issues today is the conservation of primate species in zoos. According to Willis (2022), people believe that because some animals are on the verge of extinction, keeping them in zoos keeps them safe and allows them to be bred. The animals are assumed to be in great danger in the wild because of the fear that the living conditions may make it difficult for them to survive and that they are still endangered due to predators. However, a number of incidents have recently emerged that demonstrate that keeping primates in zoos causes more harm than good. According to Crates (2022), primates in zoos are separated from their natural habitat and way of life, robbing them of their ability to live in the wild again. The primates suffer as well, especially when zookeepers are not properly trained or equipped to handle them.
